Disco’s out, Murder’s in

How Changes in Tastes Can Bring About Changes in a Person's Life

In my penultimate blog post using song titles of one album I focus on the topic of change through the ages of our lives.

In the late 1970s, New York City experienced a cultural shift that saw the decline of disco music and culture, and the rise of crime and violence. The phrase "Disco's out, Murders in" became popular during this period, as it captured the sense of unease and uncertainty that people felt about the changing times.

But beyond the societal and economic factors that contributed to this shift, there's an important lesson to be learned here: changes in tastes can bring about changes in a person's life.

Think about it - the music we listen to, the movies we watch, the food we eat - all of these things shape our identity and influence the way we see the world. And when our tastes change, it can have a ripple effect on our lives.

For example, let's say you've been a die-hard rock fan all your life. You love nothing more than going to concerts, headbanging to your favorite bands, and wearing leather jackets and studded bracelets. But one day, you discover a jazz album that blows your mind. Suddenly, you find yourself exploring a whole new world of music - one that's more mellow, more nuanced, and more sophisticated than anything you've listened to before.

As you dive deeper into the world of jazz, you start attending concerts and festivals, meeting new people, and discovering new places. You find yourself dressing differently, speaking differently, and even thinking differently. Before you know it, your taste in music has transformed you into a different person - one who's more open-minded, more cultured, and more introspective than the rock fan you used to be.

Of course, this is just one example of how changes in tastes can bring about changes in a person's life. The same can be said for changes in other areas of our lives, such as our hobbies, our beliefs, or our relationships. When we're willing to step out of our comfort zones and try new things, we open ourselves up to new experiences and new possibilities.

Change is a necessary part of growth. If we want to evolve as people, we have to be willing to shed our old skins and embrace new experiences. As a coach, my role is to help you navigate these changes and find the courage to step outside your comfort zone. Together, we can work on identifying the areas of your life where you feel stuck or unfulfilled, and explore new possibilities for growth and transformation. We can create a roadmap for change that takes into account your values, your strengths, and your goals. And I can provide you with the support and accountability you need to make lasting changes in your life.

So the next time you find yourself in a rut, feeling stuck in your old ways, remember this: "Disco's out, Murders in." Embrace the changes in your tastes, and see where they take you. Who knows? You might just discover a whole new side of yourself that you never knew existed.
